Q: How can I learn more or book your non-wedding family photography services?  A: If you are interested in booking me for non-wedding family photography services (e.g., pre-wedding, maternity, birthday, graduation, holiday, family reunion, etc.), please fill out this brief Request Form.

Q: What wedding and family photography services do you offer? A: For years it has been my joy and honor to be given the opportunity to capture my clients' special life events, including engagement/pre-wedding photoshoots, maternity, birthdays, holidays, graduations, family reunions, and others.  Now I am delighted to add top-tier wedding photography to my practice!  Unlike wedding-only photographers, who may shoot 50-100 weddings per year, I will be accepting only a handful of wedding bookings annually.  Please read on (and also take a look at my gallery of wedding photos) to get a sense of whether we might be a good fit.

Q: What is your style/approach to wedding photography?  A: Your choice of a wedding day photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make while planning for your big day.  After all, your wedding photos will be one of your most cherished heirlooms to share and remember your day.  These images do more than simply capture the special moments of your wedding day; they also tell your story of love and commitment as a couple gathered together with your families and friends.  And visual storytelling is what I do!  There are many talented professional wedding photographers to choose from, but it is not a one-size-fits-all selection process.  Some photographers work in a purely documentary style, others using editorial, photojournalism, or fine art approaches.  What is your style and how will your photographer render it?  It is my experience as a travel photographer and fine art photographer that sets me apart from the many other talented wedding photographers out there.  My work in those genres has yielded major international awards, publications, and exhibitions, and provides a broader and more artistic perspective.  My style and approach are best described as documentary with fine art touches.  Your gallery of wedding images will faithfully capture the special moments of your day, while delighting with artistic glimpses that would otherwise be missed, and from the photos your personal wedding story will emerge.

Q: What types of weddings do you cover?  A: I am not, nor do I plan to become, a wedding photography generalist booking dozens of wedding of all types annually.  It is my intent to continue to book only a few weddings each year, so it is important that there be a strong affinity between your and my styles.  I believe I can most authentically serve couples who are planning intimate to mid-sized weddings where the emphasis is on creating shared experiences rather than following highly-structured ritual.  So a cathedral wedding with 1500 guests and dozens of attendants may not be the best fit, while an intimate gathering of close friends and family in a natural setting or other meaningful location might work well.

Q: Do you cover destination weddings?  A: As a working travel photographer, I am delighted to seek out special places and capture unforgettable images all around the world.  In fact, for years my mission statement has been, "Capturing the authentic spirit of the place and its people."  So it would be a pleasure and an honor to cover your destination wedding.  Just keep in mind the stylistic considerations outlined above, and also be aware that travel outside the greater SF Bay Area will incur additional fees.

Q: If we select you as our wedding photographer, how will we work together? A: First, let's chat to explore what you're looking for and whether we're a good fit.  If we are, and your date is available, I will prepare a quote for your acceptance, followed by a contract for all of us to sign.  A 50% deposit is typically payable at contract signing to hold the date, with the balance due one week before the wedding.  Then comes the fun part!  We will meet at least once before your wedding day, ideally at the wedding venue(s), to customize your photography services to meet your specific needs.  This meeting is best held a couple of months before the wedding, when you have your itinerary mostly planned.  The goal of this planning session is so that I can be prepared to beautifully capture the images you want, in a way that does not disrupt your wedding festivities.  On the big day, my second photographer and I will arrive and set up as scheduled, and we will get to work capturing all the magic: getting ready, the ceremony, formal portraits, and the reception.  This is your special day, and the last thing you want is to have to think about photography.  Other than your formal portraits with each other and your wedding party, your wedding day activities should not feel like a photoshoot.  A few weeks after the wedding you will receive your finished photos, delivered via a private online gallery from which you can view, share, and download your images.

Q: How far in advance should we book you? A: Sometimes I am available on short notice, so if your wedding is last-minute, or perhaps your photographer had to cancel for health reasons, by all means ask me. But in general it is better to book me as soon as you know your wedding date/location and have a sense of your photography needs. Advance booking helps us work together to achieve the best results.

Q: What are your rates for wedding photography? A: You will likely find my rates to be  reasonable compared to what other top-tier professional photographers charge. Every wedding is different and will be custom quoted, but for a local Bay Area wedding requiring 6-12 hours of coverage, my fees will usually be in the range of $3000-$6000. Other than for travel outside of the SF Bay Area (where applicable), my rates are all-inclusive. That means your quote will cover our planning meetings, a site visit where feasible, travel,  my coverage on your wedding day, a second professional photographer to capture different perspectives, post-processing, and delivery via a secure online gallery of your finished photos (along with a license to print and share your finished photos). Be sure to compare my rates accurately with other photographers', as many professionals will charge extra for a second photographer and/or for covering multiple venues, and sometimes they will require you to purchase prints or albums from them. When you book me, you are free to have your photos printed or albums made from anywhere you'd like, though I do offer these services directly from your online photo gallery at reasonable prices.

Q: How many finished photos will we receive? A: Every wedding is different, and quality certainly trumps quantity where your wedding photos are concerned, but I want to make sure you have a comprehensive portfolio of images that captures your entire wedding day story and features most of your guests, so my goal is to deliver approximately 80 finished photos per hour of coverage.  For a typical 10-hour wedding, by way of example, you might receive approximately 800 finished photos.

Q: Do we have to purchase prints or albums of our wedding day photos from you?  A: No, you are free to download high-resolution files of all of your finished photos and have them printed and/or have albums made anywhere you like.  But be aware that photo labs vary tremendously in the quality and cost of their work.  I partner with one of the top photo labs in the country.  You always have the option of ordering high-quality prints, albums, greeting cards, and other products featuring your photos, directly from your online gallery, at my regular, affordable prices.

Q: How long do you take to deliver my finished photos? A: I pride myself on quick turnaround and in most cases I can select, post-process, and deliver your finished photos within approximately one month of your wedding day. When priority delivery is required, I can usually meet your timeframe for an extra fee.

Q: Are you insured? A: Yes. I carry professional insurance and can provide this information to your venue(s) or wedding coordinator as required.

Q: We'd like to discuss our wedding day and see if you're a good fit.  What's our next step? A: I look forward to chatting with both of you and exploring whether I'm a good fit to create your wedding-day photographs!  Please reach out by filling out this short Request for Proposal form.
